Time magazine has put The New Calvinism as one of the top three ideas shaping the world at the moment. It’s a very interesting article and well worth the read. I think its a fair assessment of the doctrine, and records some changing trends in American Christianity.
Another Time magazine article – Calvinist Comeback, has an interesting comment on the decline of liberal theology in the face of modern Calvinism.

It is refreshing to see the media comment on theological issues without being completely dismissive. It is even better that the teachings of Calvin are becoming more influential. While we rejoice in this, we do not seek to lift up the name of Calvin, but Jesus. Calvin can give us deep insights into the word, but better to be captivated by the Living Word.

It is good for you to to able to refer to the Time magazine article while you are visiting the States. You are in another country where the Lord has done great things, as he has in your homeland of Scotland, through the preaching of the gospel.
Hopefully, in these days when the Lord is showing the foolishness of depending on the things of this world, He will help us to ‘lay up treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also’. As we increasingly find our satisfaction in the Saviour, the impact on those around us will be the greater – and perhaps bring back more of those glorious times when the Gospel changes a nation as it did in the time of Jonathan Edwards.
